About the Role
As the Shared Services Manager – Research Finance, you will play a critical leadership role with responsibility for overseeing the effective delivery of finance support to researchers within the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences (MDHS).
As an experienced leader, you will embed and grow a collaborative, high-performing team culture to enable a customer-oriented and effective delivery of finance support. Under your leadership, the team will assist researchers at the forefront of medical discoveries by providing advice on resource allocation, forecasting and budgeting, contractual and regulatory compliance - ultimately contributing to potentially life-changing research.
With a focus on developing the function, you will provide capability uplift and drive continuous improvement initiatives in the development and implementation of new processes, structures and technology to deliver an excellent customer experience.
While a strong technical background is desirable, we are first and foremost looking for a confident people leader who is comfortable engaging with senior stakeholders in a complex, multi-layered and ever-changing environment.
In a typical week at work, you may:
- Coordinate the provision of finance advice and support focusing on the research operations of the MDHS, including through periodic reporting, forecasting and budgeting support at the Academic Division-level
- Ensure the effective integration of the MDHS function with allied shared services functions across operational finance (Finance Services, and Financial Accounting, Taxation and Budgeting) and research development and support (Business Development and Innovation, and Research Grant and Contract Services)
- Act as the primary conduit between the Post Award Finance Support function and the Academic Division
About You
You will be an experienced manager looking to make an impact - You will be confident in leading the cultural transformation of our function, ensuring business needs and objectives are reflected in the evolution of our finance shared services model.
Your sound understanding of contemporary leadership practices, mentoring and performance management skills enable you to establish clear expectations among your team and embed a collaborative and encouraging culture with a focus on high performance.
You enjoy the challenge of working within a large, complex organisation and have a passion for understanding the inner workings of the business and people you support.
Ideally, you will further have:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in finance, business, commerce or a related discipline, an equivalent combination of relevant experience and education/training
- A proven track record of identifying and implementing business improvement initiatives and fostering a culture of continuous improvement
- A commitment to the provision of high-quality service, with a demonstrated ability in delivering user friendly, responsive client service
- Strong stakeholder management skills, including the ability to quickly establish effective working relationships and constructively resolve conflict
- Familiarity with finance and accounting concepts, standards, processes and systems, or a capacity to rapidly acquire such a familiarity
