About the Role
This is a research associate (post-doctoral or visiting) position in pure mathematics at the University of Melbourne. It is funded through the ARC Discovery Project "Elliptic Schubert Calculus" with investigators N. Ganter, Y. Yang, G. Zhao, P. Zinn-Justin. This is a program which applies elliptic cohomology to geometric representation theory, enumerative geometry, integrable systems and invariants of singular varieties. The ideal candidate would bring in expertise complementing that of the investigators.
In a typical week at work, you may:
- The conduct of internationally competitive research either as a member of a team or independently, and the publications from that research.
- Supervision, or where appropriate, supervision of major postgraduate research projects and minor undergraduate research projects within the field of the staff member's area of research.
- Involvement in professional activities including, attendance at conferences and seminars in the field of expertise.
- Administrative functions primarily connected with his/her area of research.
About You
You are a confident communicator with an ability to develop research links with other departments nationally and/or internationally.
You a strong leader, a person who shows initiative and the ability to work as part of a team and build rapport with all levels of staff within a diverse work environment.
Ideally, you will further have:
- Ability to undertake internationally competitive research, either individually or as part of a team.
- Ability to initiate new research ideas and directions.
- Quality and relevance of the applicant's previous contributions to the field.
- A demonstrated ability to make a lively contribution to the research activities of the local and global math community.
- A PhD or equivalent research higher degree in pure mathematics or a related discipline.
