Reporting to the Head of Commercial ,you will lead the post contract commercial function for SSE’s Solar and Battery business, in line with strategy and budget. Provide leadership and direction within the business on commercial matters. Build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Responsible for ensuring a rigorous control environment is in place to effectively manage risk and profitability across the portfolio of projects within the UK.

What is the Role?

  1. Partnership – build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders including Operations Project Managers / Engineers, Legal, Procurement, Development Team, Finance and the Major Projects Team.
  2. Contract & Commercial Management for large projects in range of £20m – £75m capex. Lead and manage the commercial team to work closely with the delivery teams.
  1. Actively support the monthly review process and review overall commercial position for projects. Assist with management of WIP, debt and problem projects highlighting trading risks to the management team. Ensure cost control is monitored across all projects and in accordance with accounting regulations and best practice.
  2. Responsibility for managing the commercial resource required for projects, ensuring internal policy is understood; a clear understanding of reporting obligations as well as the interfaces with other parts of the business.
  1. Reporting – responsible for commercial reporting tools to manage risk and profitability effectively across the wider portfolio (as well as for individual larger projects).

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

  1. Previous experience of successfully carrying out a Quantity Surveying role on large projects - £20m +
  2. Recognized qualification in a QS /commercial related subject
  3. Strong knowledge of standard form contracts – NEC/ FIDIC
  4. Able to identify contractual risks and a range of potential mitigation solutions
  5. Experienced in setting up Cost Control / CVR processes
  6. Disciplined approach to risk management and compliance with internal governance policies
