Senior Materials Engineer - Electrolysers
Work Location: Perth
The Senior Materials Engineer – Electrolysers will be the technical expert on components and materials used in Electrolysers and provide material related technical support to various functions to make sure the quality product is delivered to the end customer.
Key accountabilities will include:
- Ensure that all related activities are performed in accordance with FFI / FMG policy, contractual agreements, quality standards, health, safety and environment requirements, financial targets, as well as schedule commitments
- Develop material specification of components consisting of material, chemical, mechanical and electrical properties
- Work closely with supply chain to develop and qualify suppliers based upon the material specifications
- Assist Quality team to develop quality standards for material components and develop incoming inspection plan
- Develop testing standards for suppliers to comply before shipping the components
- Follows project timelines and make sure the projects are completed on time
- Makes risk assessments in one’s area of responsibility to assure safe systems of work and takes appropriate actions. Reports contract/quality/program/cost issues to management
- Provide technical support to internal customers on incoming supplier quality and support the Operations team in diagnosing material quality related test failures
- Maintains network of engineering professionals and shares best practice across different functions and partners
- Uses standard processes and tools
- Ensures compliance with Group health, safety and environmental directives and that regulations are implemented, while monitoring and reporting progress and results
- Assesses risks and safety hazrds and implements plans to ensure people and equipment safety
Qualifications and skills required:
- Degree in qualified in a relevant field such as Materials/Chemical/Electrochemical Science or Engineering
- Subject Matter Expert in material engineering, inorganic chemistry or electrochemistry
- Solid experience in R&D engineering and materials selection and up to date with the latest technical knowledge in all water electrolysis technologies. Detailed knowledge of catalyst production, application, and manufacturing methods would be advantageous
- Good working knowledge of CAD, CAM, and FEA software an asset
- Solid understanding of material properties changes related to change in chemical composition of the material
- Experienced in defining and leading the electrochemical testing methods of electrodes and membranes in Alkaline water electrolysis in an R&D setting
- Outgoing attitude with a passion for and commitment to delivering excellence
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, communication, and organisational skills
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple projects as well as participate in an integrated group in time sensitive situations
- Fluent spoken and written English language skills with additional foreign language skills advantageous
- Strong computer literacy
