JOB SUMMARY

As a core team member on the “Revitalizing the Digital Library of the Caribbean” initiative, supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Project Coordinator will support activities related to open educational resources (OER) for instructors, students, and information professionals engaging with Caribbean collections. This year-round (12 month), time-limited position will undertake responsibility for managing a collaborative, international program to develop, evaluate, and disseminate freely available instructional materials for higher education in Caribbean Studies. Additionally, the position will oversee the creation and translation of guides documenting recommended practice and resources on topics relevant to dLOC Partners, such as digitization, conservation, copyright, etc. Working with educators and practitioners across disciplines, this position will ensure that expert work is transformed into published materials that are usable and maintainable moving forward.

As a member of the Digital Partnerships & Strategies Department, the dLOC Project Coordinator joins a team whose functional responsibility spans many core areas and that is intentionally designed to create, sustain, and foster productive partnerships for shared goals.

The library encourages staff participation in reaching management decisions and consequently the dLOC Coordinator will serve on various committees and teams. To support all colleagues, students and faculty, and foster excellence in a diverse and collaborative society, the Coordinator will bring culturally rich lived experiences to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, races, ethnicities, genders, sexual orientation, and perspectives. The dLOC Coordinator will pursue professional development opportunities, including research, publication, and professional service activities.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching Resource Development

  • Collaborates with multi-institutional, international group of contributors to identify, develop, review, and share educational materials for higher education students in Caribbean Studies.
  • Responds to inquiries from OER contributors, including basic information on copyright, accessibility, and technology.
  • Engages potential OER contributors or users by facilitating live and recorded information sessions.
  • Coordinates and directly undertakes publication and outreach to enhance awareness and access to contributed OER.
  • Actively engages in diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives and keeps abreast of work in the field that demonstrates the role of OER in inclusive and international learning environments.

Stipend Program Administration

  • Manages stipends program to facilitate creation of open educational resources (OER), including coordination with program advisory committee.
  • Disseminates calls for proposals and other outreach materials to promote awareness of funding opportunities.
  • Coordinates application, review, and award processes.
  • Assesses program milestones and progress on an annual basis.

Program Guide Development

  • Coordinates with internal experts and dLOC community members to identify topics of interest to partners such as copyright, collections metadata, preservation, digital exhibits, etc.
  • Acts as primary guide series editor and coordinates digital and print publication of guides.
  • Collaborates with department colleagues to disseminate published guides to partners.

Translation

  • Coordinates and directly undertakes translation in English and one or more of Spanish, French, Haitian Kreyòl, or another relevant language for educational resources, guides, and other materials.

Grant management

  • Contributes to assessment and reporting activities relevant to the project grant.
  • Coordinates with project team members and other units as needed to process stipends and honoraria for external partners.

Other Duties

  • Participates in other departmental activities, including public service and special projects as assigned.
  • Participates in staff development opportunities as needed.

DIGITAL PARTNERSHIPS & STRATEGIES

Digital Partnerships & Strategies Department provides leadership for digital partnerships between the Smathers Libraries and partners across the university, regionally, nationally, and internationally. DP&S provides program development and manages program operations for Scholarly Communications, the LibraryPress@UF, and the Institutional Repository (IR@UF), ensuring alignment with the Smathers Libraries’ Strategic Directions and support for the Libraries’ collaborative partnerships, initiatives, and programs. This includes projects associated with the UF Digital Collections (UFDC), Digital Library of the Caribbean (dLOC), the IR@UF and other digital collections and scholarship efforts hosted at UF, including support for digital scholarly publishing.

UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA LIBRARIES

The libraries at the University of Florida form the largest academic information resource system in the state of Florida with seven libraries and two off-campus facilities. The George A. Smathers Libraries are comprised of six of the campus libraries, and the off-site facilities. In addition to this system, the Lawton Chiles Legal Information Center is part of the Levin College of Law. The Libraries hold over 6.27 million print volumes, 1.5 million e-books, 145,000 full-text electronic journals, over 1000 electronic databases, 1.3 million documents, over 15 million digitized pages from the Libraries’ collections and 1.4 million maps and images. Expected Salary:

$68,990 minimum salary; The Smathers Libraries offer a salary commensurate with experience and credentials

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of related library experience; or a master’s degree in Library or Information Science or other directly relevant area.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in directly relevant area
  • Demonstrated professional level proficiency in written and spoken English and one or more of French, Spanish, Haitian Kreyòl, or another relevant language
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Caribbean histories and cultures, informed by work, academic, and/or lived experience
  • Experience in one or more areas of open education, instructional design, web publishing, or digital humanities
  • Basic working knowledge of copyright and accessibility
  • Record of including individuals of diverse backgrounds, experiences, races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientation, and perspectives in research, teaching, service, and other work
  • Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with international and US partners, faculty, students, administrators, and the general public
  • Initiative, flexibility, and the ability to adapt and work creatively in a complex, rapidly changing academic environment
  • Experience teaching or training in online environments
