Biological Scientist I

Job Description:

Performs a variety of standard microbiology and molecular biology experiments. This includes bacterial cell culture, tissue culture procedures, SDS-PAGE and Western blotting, DNA and RNA extraction and real-time PCR, scanning electron microscopy, routine lab experiments (e.g., media and solutions preparation), as well as conduct hearing tests in laboratory animals.

Collects and organizes data and document results.

Prepare specimens and samples following established lab protocols.

Manages animal protocols and daily care of animals.

General lab duties, e.g., maintenance of laboratory and equipments, monitors lab supplies, oversees proper disposal of materials, and other tasks assigned by supervisor.

Work flexible hours depending on specific experiments. Some periodic weekend hours as dictated by experiments.

Expected Salary:

$16.19 - $21.00 per hour; Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related life science field.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • 1-2 years work experience in microbiology, molecular biology or biochemistry
  • Knowledge of applicable computer technologies, including specific software applications, such as MS Word, MS Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Appropriate communication skills.
  • Previous experience working with laboratory animals.
