Who Are We Looking For?
We are seeking a motivated and experienced Staff Specialists in Emergency Medicine, who will work as part of the Department of Emergency Medicine across Tasmania’s North West Region. Servicing a population of approximately 116,000, the Staff Specialist provides specialist emergency medical care to patients attending the Department of Emergency Medicine at the North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) and Mersey Community Hospital (MCH).
The NWRH and MCH Emergency Departments (ED), have approximately 30,000 presentations annually and treat a broad range of patients. The NWRH is the regional trauma centre with a 25% admission rate. The MCH is a sub-acute hospital with limited services and a 15% admission rate. The MCH is staffed with both FACEM and FACRRM.
The NWRH ED is accredited by the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine for 24 months of training with an application for year 4 training currently in process. The Emergency Department at MCH is accredited for emergency medicine certificate and diploma courses.
Fellows of the Australian College for Rural and Remote Medicine and Fellows of the Australian College of General Practitioners with skills and qualifications in Emergency Medicine, ideally the ED Diploma, are encouraged to apply. There are multiple clinical support portfolios that include quality and safety, education, ultrasound and EMET.

The right applicants will play a key role in developing health care at both patient and system levels.
The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.
Salary
A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Essential Requirements
- Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant speciality
- Current Driver’s Licence
