We are seeking interest from applicants for an accredited Senior Ophthalmology Registrar vacancy at Royal Hobart Hospital with secondment to the Northwest of Tasmania. Suitable for a fifth-year trainee, this job offers trainees a well-supported, high volume, varied (not just cataract) surgical experience across the breadth of comprehensive ophthalmology.

The successful applicant will be based at North West Eye Surgeons which has private rooms and associated day surgery at Devonport Eye Hospital in Devonport and private rooms at North West Medical Centre in Burnie. The registrar, as part of their usual duties, may at times also see patients at THS facilities such as North West Regional Hospital and Mersey Community Hospital. Operating will occur for the most part at Devonport Eye Hospital with some lists at North West Private Hospital.

The consultants based at North West Eye Surgeons and visiting ophthalmologists together offer comprehensive ophthalmic including vitreoretinal surgery, medical retina, glaucoma, oculoplastic ophthalmology, cornea, and paediatric ophthalmology. A vitreoretinal surgeon visits weekly and a corneal surgeon every fourth week.

This position offers fifth-year trainees the chance to operate on a broad range of surgeries. The roster includes more than 4 operating sessions per week on average. Current and previous occupants of the position report operating on more than 80-100 cases per month, with consultant backup where needed, making this a great job for consolidating your surgical skills.

The private outpatients and theatres are well-appointed with up-to-date facilities and equipment.

Tasmania offers an envious lifestyle with some amazing natural attractions, a wide range of opportunities, short commutes, cultural events and festivals, and exceptional food and produce.
