Principal Water Engineer
Location: Perth, WA
Roster: Monday to Friday
Reporting to the Lead Water Engineer, this position will be responsible for providing technical guidance to a team of water resource professionals.
You will be required to review and provide guidance in the completion of technical works including conceptual design and technical assurance for projects involving water resource management, water treatment (including desalination), water conveyance infrastructure, hydrologic analysis, and flood-risk assessments.
Key Responsibilities will include:
- Provide Subject Matter Expertise and technical guidance to a team of professionals to effectively deliver water resource engineering assessments for a range of studies to meet business objectives
- Developing water management strategies and review water management plans across the lifecycle of a wide range of local and international projects
- Developing water management plans, water management systems and water balance models
- Participation in risk assessments and hazard identification for projects
- Providing technical advice and information to study teams on water resource issues that influence design, construction, and maintenance, of engineered structures including water source investigations, water balance modelling, water quality assessments and other related water management studies
- Planning and managing site investigations including collection of hydrometric, hydrological, and hydrogeological data
- Review of water quality monitoring and laboratory data, water resource assessments, including water quality and supply studies
- Assist with design of built structures, using specialized computer software and calculations
- Assist in preparation of construction plans, specifications and cost estimates including material quantity calculations
- Provide analysis of options for, and participate in the design of, water and wastewater treatment processes
- Compilation and review of technical reports and water resource engineering technical specifications and standards
- Liaising with a range of project stakeholders including construction engineers, consultants, and contractors
- Provide support to a diverse team of professionals across multiple parts of the value chain.
Qualifications and Key Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Engineering (Chemical, Civil or Environmental Engineering)
- Licensed Professional Engineer
- Minimum 25 years’ experience in water resource management
- Demonstrated technical experience within a consulting, mining and/or water industry environment
- Prior experience in a similar role preferably in the renewable energy sector or complex environments
- International water management experience is highly desirable
- Detailed knowledge of a wide range of water resource management engineering components, tools and processes such as water resource management, water balance assessments, surface water hydrology, hydraulic modelling, stormwater management and water quality modelling
- Knowledge and experience in water supply, treatment, water quality management and wastewater disposal.
- Experience with water management strategies, water system planning and infrastructure design and management.
- Working knowledge of industry standards, guidelines and best practice (familiarity with international codes and standards will be beneficial)
