Job Description:

The main goal of the Protein Expression and Purification Core Facility is to provide support to the EMBL research community regarding all types of experiments related to advanced protein expression, purification and biophysical characterization.

The new staff member will be responsible for recombinant protein expression and purification experiments in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. She/he will be expected to discuss the project needs with individual users and then develop a suitable strategy for the construct design, expression and purification of the requested recombinant proteins. Quality control of the purified proteins will be performed in close collaboration with the facility's biophysics platform. Furthermore, the new scientific officer will also take part in reagent development and explore and optimise novel methods and protocols with the aim of developing robust and efficient pipelines adapted to the requirements of our users.  

The minimum requirement for this position is a degree in biochemistry, molecular biology or in a closely related scientific area. Expertise in the field of protein expression in insect and mammalian cells and in-depth knowledge of various chromatographic techniques is essential, experience with bacterial expression would be a plus. Teamwork, flexibility, good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with a varied multicultural user community are expected. Fluency in English is required.

A good working knowledge of various cloning methods would be considered an advantage for the position.
