OPS Laboratory Technician - Insect Vector and Public Health

Job Description:

The Insect Vector and Public Health Laboratory is seeking a highly motivated OPS with prior laboratory and field experience to conducted mosquito and tick related research. The individual will be responsible for collecting mosquitoes and ticks using different trapping techniques, data entry, mosquito colony maintenance as well as molecular work including RNA, DNA extraction and gel electrophoresis. The OPS will aid graduate and undergraduate students, laboratory staff, volunteers, etc. with various research projects and assist with other laboratory duties as necessary. Wearing proper personal equipment in field and lab related activities is required.

Expected Salary:

$14-$18 per hour based on qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • B.S. in entomology or related discipline
  • Demonstrated proficiency of general laboratory practices
  • Ability to work well independently and with others
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Prior experience with mosquito or tick related field work
  • Knowledge of project management techniques and tools
Preferred Qualifications:
  • M.S. in entomology or related discipline
  • Statistical skills
  • Next generation sequencing skills
