About the Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology, Bio21 Institute
The Department of Biochemistry and Pharmacology is located in the Bio21 Institute. The department has exceptionally strong discipline strengths across the molecular sciences, understanding disease mechanisms, translational research and drug discovery, and hosts some of the leading technology/analytical platforms in the country.

About the Role
The McConville laboratory is interested in identifying metabolic processes in parasitic protists that are essential for virulence and potential drug targets. This position will utilise newly developed CRISPR/Cas9 tools to disrupt key metabolic genes and pathways in Leishmania parasites and a range of biochemical and high content screening approaches to functionally define the biochemical and virulence phenotype of mutant lines.

About You
The position is suitable for an individual with strong undergraduate and Honours/MSc degree in biochemistry/cell biology/microbiology and a PhD in a related discipline (or near completion of PhD). You should have strong technical and organizational skills, be able to work independently as well as collegially within in a large research group, and be highly engaged in the technical and intellectual advancement of the project.
