Job Description:

Conduct research in the areas of bacteriology and virology using Gram-negative bacteria and bacteriophages. Execute experiments independently or assist other lab members. Current techniques include plaque assays, PCR, cloning, site-directed mutagenesis, CRISPR/Cas9 knock-downs, protein expression and purification, DNA and RNA extraction, and data analysis.

Perform routine laboratory support including maintenance of bacterial cell lines and bacteriophage stocks, general organizational tasks, and routine maintenance of equipment.

Develop, learn, try, and/or troubleshoot new techniques as needed based on current projects in the laboratory.

Assist in training incoming students in basic laboratory protocols, standard operating procedures, documentation, and data analysis.

Maintain, organize, and update protocols and inventories. Order and receive lab supplies as necessary.

Contribute to general duties of laboratory operation, including cleaning and organization of the area, supplies, and equipment.

Expected Salary:

$44,700

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Master’s degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least one year of experience with molecular biology techniques.
