Following an announcement by the Tasmanian Government, a Public Health Direction was issued on 10 September 2021 requiring that all Health Workers are vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.

Applicants for any position within the Department of Health must be prepared to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment.

Hours/Period of Appointment

Permanent day working 76 hours per fortnight with oncall, to commence as soon as possible . Notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $159,262 - $242,079 per annum

Access to Market allowance in lieu of PPP, CPD Allowance, Allowance in lieu of on call call back and penalty payments, communication allowance, Motor vehicle or allowance in lieu of Motor Vehicle.

Generous relocation reimbursement.

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $222,966-$242079 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as described in the Salaried Medical Practitioners Interim Agreement 2019.

Duties

  1. Provision of a comprehensive general adult psychiatric service in the northern region including:
  • Assessment and treatment of adult mental health clients at various sites across the region including inpatient settings, community clinics and clients’ homes.
  • Participation in the after hours on call roster.
  1. Contribution to the effective functioning of the adult multidisciplinary mental health team through participation in clinical reviews and providing consultancy services for other team members across the treatment settings.
  2. Promote and maintain close links with other specialists, general practitioners and service providers to ensure continuity of patient care and the ongoing development of the mental health sector.
  3. Participation in teaching and supervision of psychiatric registrars and medical students as required and the in-service training of other staff.
  4. Maintenance of a high standard of care in all respects, including compliance with agency endorsed documentation and data collation requirements as specified by the National Minimal Data Set and the National Outcomes and Case mix Collection documents.
  5. Active participation in mental health service ongoing quality improvement activities and staff meetings.
  6. Representation of the service at intra- and inter-agency meetings or forums as appropriate or required.
  7. Maintenance of a satisfactory knowledge of major evidence-based practice research findings in area of clinical practice and participation in appropriate formal continuing medical education.
  8. Actively participate in and contribute to the organisation’s Quality & Safety and Work Health & Safety processes, including in the development and implementation of safety systems, improvement initiatives and related training.
  9. The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification level.

Essential Requirements

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration.
  • The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty

2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
