Job Description:

Following an announcement by the Tasmanian Government, a Public Health Direction was issued on 10 September 2021 requiring that all Health Workers are vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.

Applicants for any position within the Department of Health must be prepared to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment.

Hours/Period of Appointment

Permanent, part time, day working 68.40 hours per fortnight to commence from 6 December 2021. Notwithstanding hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $159,262 - $242,079 per annum

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $229, 337 - $242,079 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as described in the Salaried Medical Practitioners Interim Agreement 2019.

Duties

Provide the highest possible standard of specialist palliative care medical services, consultancy and advice to clients and families.

Facilitate the development and delivery of best practice specialist palliative care medical services in Tasmania.

Provision of teaching in palliative care for undergraduate and post graduate students, general practitioners and primary and specialist health professionals.

Promote and participate in palliative care research to improve evidence-based practice.

Work collaboratively with primary health service providers and specialist health service providers across the range of settings for effective continuity of care.

Actively pursue improved outcomes for clients in need of palliative care by participating in postgraduate teaching, clinical audits and evaluation.

Essential Requirements

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty.
  • Refer to SoD for further essential requirements
  • The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty

2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.

Desirable Requirements

  • Fellow with the Australasian Chapter of Palliative Medicine (AChPM) or a Specialist Medical Practitioner with extensive experience in Palliative Medicine
