Job Description:

The Autonomous Vehicles Lab in the Research & Engineering Education Facility with the Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering is looking for a research engineer to join our team and develop hardware proof-of-concept demonstrations of autonomy algorithms on aerial and ground robots. In this role you will be working with open-source robotics systems to develop the next generation robotics systems that are of interest to academia, industry and the DoD. You will work with an interdisciplinary team developing code to test and evaluate research-level algorithms on simulations and hardware platforms, from demonstrations with UF researchers, or sponsoring researchers (Air Force, Army, etc.), or supporting hardware implementations forvisiting researchers. This is a dynamic environment, and the team needs to adapt and execute on a wide variety of efforts. This is a full-time and salaried position and we are looking for engineers that are capable of learning new concepts on the job, comfortable with executing more than one project at the time, and able to contribute individually and as a team member.

In this role, you will:

  1. Work with UF and DoD researchers to implement and evaluate novel estimation, controls and optimization algorithms
  2. Design and perform tests to verify software in simulation and on robots.
  3. Build complex system-of-systems demonstrations to showcase research
  4. Breakdown challenging tasks into smaller pieces and prioritize them to meet deadlines
  5. Provide engineering feedback to researchers to improve algorithms
  6. Work as part of team but will also be expect to work independently to complete tas

Note: This job does not have ITAR restrictions.

Expected Salary:

$65,000; commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Requirements:

BS in engineering or computer science

Programming experience either in C++ or Python

Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Strong analytical reasoning, organizational, communication, and prioritization skills.
  2. Experience with software development, including testing, and troubleshooting.
  3. Experience with ROS and Linux systems is a plus
  4. Prior experience working with ground and aerial robot is also a plus
