Job Description:

Following an announcement by the Tasmanian Government, a Public Health Direction was issued on 10 September 2021 requiring that all Health Workers are vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.

Applicants for any position within the Department of Health must be prepared to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment.


$54,135 to $56,478 per annum

Period of Employment

Permanent, full-time, shift work (fully rotational), working 76 hours per fortnight.

Please note that there are multiple roles available and part time hours may be considered.

Mental Health Services South - Peacock Centre


As a member of a multidisciplinary team delivering high quality services; and accordance with the National Standards for Mental Health Services, Agency policy, legal requirements and relevant professional competencies, the Ward Aide, Acute Treatment Unit:

  • Assists nursing and allied health professional staff in general daily care of consumers including bathing, dressing, feeding and personal care.

  • Participates in and assists with the supervision of consumer activities as requested by nursing staff and allied health staff.

  • Participates in and assists consumers with their rehabilitation and recovery programs including shopping, meal preparation, serving meals and community access, as requested by nursing staff or allied health staff.

  • Undertakes the Patient Safety Assistant role as and when requested.

  • Maintains the unit in a clean and homely state including bed making, assisting consumers with personal laundry needs and general household and kitchen duties.

  • Protects consumers and promote a safe working environment.

Essential Requirements

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty

2. Identification check

3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check

Desirable Requirements

  • Certificate III/IV in Health Care or equivalent or Health Professional Undergraduate qualification.

  • Current Driver’s Licence.
