Job Description:

Following an announcement by the Tasmanian Government, a Public Health Direction was issued on 10 September 2021 requiring that all Health Workers are vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.

Applicants for any position within the Department of Health must be prepared to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment.

The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for an Allied Health – Safe Haven vacancy.

Please note this position is also being advertised as a Clinical Nurse Consultant – Safe Haven (526440) vacancy and and multiple roles will be filled from this process.

Salary

$109,108 to $116,218 per annum

Please note that access to the progression point of Year 4Q salary of $116,218 is subject to successful completion of a relevant Master’s Degree as with Clause 10 of the Allied Health Professionals Public Sector Unions Wages Agreement 2019

Period of Employment

Permanent, full time, shift work (set rotational), working 76 hours per fortnight.

Mental Health Services South - Peacock Centre

Duties

As part of a small specialist team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the National Standards for Mental Health Services, Agency policy and direction and legal requirements, and relevant professional competencies, the Allied Health Professional will:

  • Actively contribute to the culture, leadership and day to day management of the Safe Haven to ensure the provision of timely high quality, clinical and psychosocial support that promotes independence, opportunity and recovery in the community and offers a realistic alternative to presentation to the Emergency Department and admission to hospital.

  • Provide ongoing support to Safe Haven Peer Workers as required including providing regular opportunities for debriefing.

  • Support consumers, and families/friends, as experts and leaders of their own care

  • Actively uphold a culture of hope by using optimistic language, supporting people and celebrating people’s recovery efforts.

  • Work with people to support, maintain or develop resources, networks and relationships to promote their access to opportunities, resources and services to achieve their recovery goals.

  • Assist with information and referral to other community-based supports, as required.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia; or

  • Degree in Social Work giving eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers; or

  • Registered with the Psychology Board of Australia

  • Current Driver’s Licence

*Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty

Desirable Requirements

  • Holds or is working towards a relevant post graduate qualification.

  • Experience in community mental health settings

  • Current Driver’s Licence.
