Job Description:

Following an announcement by the Tasmanian Government, a Public Health Direction was issued on 10 September 2021 requiring that all Health Workers are vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.

$120,894 per annum

Period of Employment

Permanent, full-time, day work, working 76 hours per fortnight.

Mental Health Services South – Peacock Centre


As part of an acute care multidisciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services in accordance with the Mental Health Services (MHS) National Mental Health Standards, Agency policy, legal requirements, and relevant professional competencies the Nursing Director – Peacock Centre will:

  • Provide leadership and direction in the management of a large multidisciplinary team working across four (4) component services to ensure the provision of an integrated high quality, comprehensive, specialist community mental health service to the population of Southern Tasmania in accordance with the principles and goals specified in the Acute Treatment Unit, Safe Haven, Integrated Hub and Recovery College Operational Service Models and associated key documentation.

  • Provide leadership and change management to facilitate the implementation and ongoing operation of the combined service and optimise outcomes for service consumers and their families/carers.

  • Coordinate the effective management of the Peacock Centre and all component services including planning, organisation, preparation and analysis of budgets, resource allocation and staff appointments.

  • Ensure the overall site and each component service works as a cohesive unit within a family sensitive philosophy that is inclusive, understanding, and respectful of both the consumer and their families.
  • Ensure compliance with all clinical data collection requirements to both meet Mental Health Service’s National Data Sets expectations and produce a Key Activity and Performance Indicators data set which accurately reflects the performance of the Peacock Centre and each component service and assists with overall service management and development.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty

  • Relevant qualifications in Mental Health

  • Current Driver’s Licence
