Why Tasmania?

It’s different here.

Life in Tasmania provides a quality work/life balance. Here you can pursue what drives you, both professionally and personally.

Today, as the rest of the world feels increasingly generic, our different-ness – our Tasmanian-ness – is among our most valuable assets. We invite you to be part of this special place, to quietly pursue the extraordinary, whether it be bushwalking, mountain biking or paddock to plate dining.

Who Are We Looking For?

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Clinical Lead – Emergency Medicine, Mersey Community Hospital (MCH), to work for the Department of Health (DoH) in the North West region. This role will require the successful applicant to work with the Clinical Director - Emergency Medicine and assist with providing a high level of strategic leadership and direction, ensuring resources are efficiently utilised, services are effectively integrated within the hospital/service and the highest standards of service delivery are achieved in accordance with hospital/service policy directions, service standards and financial targets. In addition, the Clinical Lead will provide specialist emergency medical care to patients attending the Department of Emergency Medicine at the MCH in Latrobe, while some clinical shifts may be undertaken at the North West Regional Hospital, Burnie.

The MCH Emergency Department has approximately 30,000 presentations annually and treat a broad range of patients. The NWRH is the regional trauma centre with a 25% admission rate. The MCH is a sub-acute hospital with limited services and a 15% admission rate. The MCH is staffed with both FACEM and FACRRM/FRACGP’s.

Fellows of the Australian College for Rural and Remote Medicine and Fellows of the Australian College of General Practitioners with skills and qualifications in Emergency Medicine, ideally the ED Diploma, are encouraged to apply.

The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School. As such, you will be responsible for providing leadership and help with the delivery of the Undergraduate general medical education program.

A generous relocation package is available to the successful applicant. Note: in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of the role must be performed in Tasmania and FIFO candidates should consider this carefully in their application decision.
