Job Description:

Following an announcement by the Tasmanian Government, a Public Health Direction was issued on 10 September 2021 requiring that all Health Workers are vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.

Are you an experienced Rural Generalist with a passion for clinical leadership?

If so, Tasmania’s beautiful North West is seeking a leader to establish and develop the North West Rural Generalist Training Hub centred around the Mersey Community Hospital in Latrobe.

Permanent Full Time Day Worker Position working 76 hours per fortnight

The Role:

This is a new role, created to operationalise the existing Tasmanian Rural Generalist Pathway in the North West with significant additional new funding for the program following 2021 Tasmanian state government election commitment. The successful applicant will work in close collaboration with the Statewide Tasmanian Rural Generalist Pathway collaborative. The University of Tasmania Rural Clinical school in the North West offers opportunities for medical education and conjoint appointments.

Reporting to the Executive Director Medical Services the Director Rural Generalist Training and Development will be a practicing rural generalist clinician with a credential-able advanced skill and must be able to ‘lead from the floor’ demonstrating the value of Rural Generalist Medicine to colleagues and community alike.

An attractive and very competitive remuneration package is offered including 25% NW retention allowance, generous CPD, motor vehicle or allowance, on call and an allowance in lieu of private practice.

A generous relocation package is available to the successful applicant.

Note: in view of current Tasmanian border restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic, the majority of the role must be performed in Tasmania and FIFO candidates should consider this carefully in their application decision.

Essential Requirements

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
    • Crimes of Violence
    • Sex Related Offences
    • Serious Drug Offences,
    • Crimes involving dishonesty
    • Serious Traffic Offences
  2. Identification check
  3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.

Desirable Requirements

  1. Fellowship of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) or Fellowship if Advanced Rural General Practice with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FARGP).
  2. Ability to be credentialed as a Rural Generalist with an additional advanced rural skill in one or more of the following disciplines, Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, Obstetrics, Paediatrics, Mental Health, Palliative Care or other recognised advanced rural skill.
