Job Description:

Following an announcement by the Tasmanian Government, a Public Health Direction was issued on 10 September 2021 requiring that all Health Workers are vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.

Applicants for any position within the Department of Health must be prepared to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment.

The Role:

As a member of the Hospitals North/North West Social Work team, the incumbent will, as part of a multidisciplinary team, contribute to the development, provision and evaluation of social work services for patients of the Hospital and their families and/or the community; in accordance with the Code of Ethics of the Australian Association of Social Workers and the Code of Conduct of the Hospitals North/North West.

Rotation across all clinical caseloads in the area including medical, surgical (including short stay), rehabilitation, emergency department, community clients, maternity services and paediatrics.

Participation in weekend on call roster is required.

The Team:

The Social Work Service in North West Tasmania supports the inpatient discharge process at both hospitals and the outpatient and community team provides hospital avoidance and wellness and reablement support to clients through Primary Health funded services and Commonwealth Home Support Services. Social Work also offers support to the Integrated Maternity Service at the North West Regional Hospital and offers Antenatal Social Work support at the Mersey Community Hospital.

This role is based at the North West Regional Hospital but will also require you to attend agency visits.

Details of Appointment

Permanent part time day work position working 32.6 hours per fortnight

Salary: $66,526 - $95,776 pro-rata per annum + 10% superannuation + access to salary packaging


Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

  1. Degree in Social Work giving eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.
  2. Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration.

  1. Current Drivers Licence.

    3. serious drug offences
    4. crimes involving dishonesty

  3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
