Job Description:

Following an announcement by the Tasmanian Government, a Public Health Direction was issued on 10 September 2021 requiring that all Health Workers are vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.

Applicants for any position within the Department of Health must be prepared to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment.

Salary

$77,751 to $87,649 pro rata per annum

Period of Employment

Fixed-term, full-time (and part-time hours available), working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing 10 January 2022 until 9 January 2023. (Please note opportunity for 24-month appointments may arise from this selection process)

Duties

The Resident Medical Officer is responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Hospital (or rural facility). Provide after-hours emergency cover as determined by the relevant work unit. Rotations to Rural Practice sites across the state are available.

RHHEmergency Medicine Resident positions are also available at the Royal Hobart Hospital on a 12-month (non-rotational) period. RHH Basic Physician Training and Selection Process:

Residents who select their preference for a Royal Hobart Hospital BPT placement in this online application form will be considered for the BPT program once successfully obtaining a general Resident position through applying to the Statewide RMO Recruitment Campaign. Please note a separate independent application is required to apply for the RHH BPT program by submitting an Expression of Interest directly to the Directors of Physician Education with CV and Cover Letter. Successful RHH BPTs will have access to accredited medical terms in order to fulfil college training requirements. RHH Residents selected to BPT 1 -2 will be given access to six (6) of the following fourteen (14) terms over the first 24 months of full time (or pro-rata equivalent) basic physician training: Rheumatology, Renal, Respiratory, Cardiology, Neurology, Endocrinology, Infectious Diseases, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Haematology/Radiation Oncology, Palliative Care, Geriatrics, Rehabilitation, Acute Stroke Unit, General Medicine (NWRH). Rotations including ICU, ED, and paediatrics can be considered.

Essential Requirements

Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer of any new criminal convictions and/or if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered

Resident:

  • General or unconditional registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).
  • The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
    1. crimes of violence
    2. sex related offences
    3. serious drug offences
    4. crimes involving dishonesty
  2. Identification check
  3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
  • Current Driver’s Licence (If applicable to allocated role).

Working Environment:

  • The position will require the occupant to participate in after-hours work.
