Job Description:

UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking a professional-level Network Engineer to join Information and Communications Technology, a unit within UFIT.

Infrastructure and Communication Technology, a division of UFIT, manages the UF Data Center and delivers hosted server, storage, virtualization, database, email, and related systems, in addition to connecting the University of Florida campuses to the world via high-speed data, video, Wi-Fi, telecommunications, and VoIP services.

UFIT is looking for a self-motivated and eager learner with excellent oral and written communication skills who is adaptable to a changing work environment and requirements to assess and provide technical solutions to meet the needs of business users.

Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:
• Leads network infrastructure projects including, identifying resources, designing, configuring, and installing layer-1 through layer-7 infrastructure.
• Evaluates network performances and maintenance for continuous system improvement.
• Identifies and uses creativity and knowledge of network systems to solve campus-level vulnerabilities regarding the centralized wired and Wireless, Core and Data Center networks and campus WAN interface.
• Supports the Florida Lambda Rail a state-wide high-speed ISP

Expected Salary:

$108,000 – $118,000; commensurate based on education and experience. In addition, the University of Florida offers a very competitive benefits package.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and three years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience but does not negate the minimum degree requirement(s).

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Extensive high-level network knowledge beyond CCNP in various specialties.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the UF telecommunications standards
  • Thorough understanding of physical networking principles and their application
  • Experience in large, complex higher education networks, as well as optical and DC powered networks
  • Perform some physical tasks including installation of network equipment
  • Flexibility in work style and adaptation to change
  • Must be able to maintain focus and work in open workspace environment
