About the RoleThe role at Melbourne Bioinformatics offers a dynamic opportunity for a skilled bioinformatician to immerse themselves in the evolving landscape of life science research. In addition to contributing to high-impact research projects and collaborating with experts across various disciplines, the role involves a significant emphasis on teaching, training, and capacity-building within the bioinformatics field
Your responsibilities will include:
Subject Coordination and teaching towards the Master of Science (Bioinformatics) course
Develop and deliver materials and resources for training and education in bioinformatics
Supervise/mentor higher degree students, encouraging and facilitating student engagement in both discipline-specific and broader professional networks.
Consultation – providing advice to life scientists about best-practice workflows and methods of implementation across diverse projects. This will vary in form, including contexts such as at the research-group level, individual researcher -level and input to research funding applications.
Who We Are Looking For
You will be an ideal candidate if you possess outstanding interpersonal and engagement skills, enabling you to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders and collaborate effectively. Your excellent written and verbal communication skills, combined with your ability to work well in a team, will facilitate successful teaching, student engagement, and consultations.
You will also have:
Degree in a relevant discipline, such as Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent industry experience
Outstanding interpersonal and engagement skills, with an ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders (internal and external) and to work collaboratively
Significant experience with a range of data analysis methods
Demonstrated experience in and development of programming skills, particularly with Python

About the Role
The purpose of the role within Melbourne Bioinformatics is to lead the training operations, overseeing a team of trainers and contributing to the development and delivery of bioinformatics content. This involves creating new training materials, delivering workshops, and establishing an online repository for easy access to resources. The Senior Bioinformatician will collaborate with external partners to enhance expertise and align training with national initiatives, ensuring content is comprehensive and of high quality. They will provide strategic oversight to ensure training targets are met effectively and efficiently.
Your responsibilities will include:
Lead the development and provision of local bioinformatics training content, including in-person workshops and stand-alone online content.
Identify high-quality training content from external sources that should be linked to our local training repository.
Oversee the organisation of our local training repository.
Develop new training materials in accordance with community needs, as determined through consultation with our local users and the national training network.
Who We Are Looking ForYou will thrive in this role if you possess strong communication, leadership, and networking abilities, coupled with adept stakeholder management and attention to detail. You will also have:

About the RoleThe role at Melbourne Bioinformatics focuses on supporting life science researchers in utilising Galaxy Australia within the Parkville Precinct. This involves developing and delivering training materials, publicizing Galaxy Australia, collaborating with researchers to develop workflows, and contributing to building the Galaxy Australia toolshed. The incumbent will work closely with Precinct stakeholders, national colleagues, and the broader Galaxy community to ensure effective utilisation of digital infrastructure and to facilitate research advancements in the life sciences.
Your responsibilities will include:
Develop a thorough understanding of significant software development and deployment projects and methodologies in support of Galaxy Australia.
Contribute to building the Galaxy Australia Tool Shed.
Engage with key stakeholders from associated research teams across universities, research institutes and hospitals.
Engage with key stakeholders from associated computational infrastructure providers
Who We Are Looking ForYou will excel in this role if you are personable and enjoy engaging with people, particularly in teaching and passing on knowledge. Your outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, along with your ability to build and maintain relationships with various stakeholders, will enable successful collaboration and engagement both internally and externally.
You will also have:
PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
Extensive experience as a practising bioinformatician, including significant experience with method and tool development, and data analyses
Extensive experience in training documentation and teaching in a complex informatics environment such as a research institute, clinical setting, or a research support facility, working on major research and/or clinical projects.
Demonstrated ability to develop clear, accurate and useful administrator, developer and user and training documentation and to be able to interact with and provide advice to users.

About the RoleAs the Senior Student Support Officer within the Learning and Teaching Unit, this role entails leading a team to provide expert advice and operational support for graduate pathways and research training, ensuring a high-quality student experience across all Faculty programs. Reporting to the Manager, Student Experience, the incumbent collaborates closely with academic and professional staff, maintains effective relationships with Students and Scholarly Services and Graduate Schools, and oversees service delivery within agreed standards of excellence.

Overseeing the implementation of new student support initiatives. Coordinate consultation with stakeholders, including Faculties and student leaders.

Who We Are Looking ForThe successful candidate should possess extensive experience in leading teams, demonstrating strong organisational and time management skills, and maintaining a client-centered approach. They must excel in communication, collaborating with stakeholders, and adapting to changing demands, ideally with experience in student services and familiarity with relevant university policies and systems.
You will also have:
Undergraduate qualifications in a relevant discipline with experience within the higher education sector; or a combination of relevant experience and/or education/ training.
