The GWAS Catalog (www.ebi.ac.uk/gwas) is a highly valued and widely used public repository of all published genome-wide association studies and has been running since 2008. It is considered the “go-to” resource for looking up findings relating human genotype to phenotype associations. The GWAS Catalog is responsible for collecting these data and making them Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR) so they can be served back to the community for analysis and discovery. We’re looking for a scientific curator to join the GWAS Catalog team. This position working on the GWAS Catalog and its sister resource the PGS Catalog, extracting detailed scientific information from published scientific papers, processing and annotating data submissions from the scientific community, and supporting submitters. In addition, the role will involve working with the software development team to improve the resources for users. The curator will work within a team of Scientific Curators and Software Developers at EMBL-EBI, located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK, and in collaboration with scientists at the National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) in the US and University of Cambridge, UK. The Samples, Phenotypes and Ontologies team is part of the Molecular Archives Cluster. We collaborate closely with colleagues in the Genes, Genomes and Variation cluster and other EMBL-EBI colleagues.Main Duties and ResponsibilitiesManagement of metadata for submissions handled by the resources; communication with submittersExtraction of information from published scientific papers for inclusion in the GWAS Catalog or PGS Catalog.Working collaboratively as part of an international team of scientists.Working with EMBL-EBI staff from other disciplines to improve data extraction, management and access.Participation in analysis of data and drafting of manuscripts, publications, and presentations as interests and time allow.Interaction with software developers to jointly specify, design and test software relevant to the team’s work The position is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience working on a project with major scientific impact in a world-leading bioinformatics institute. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area.
